Welcome

Welcome to Who's Who Singles Arizona Inc.
We are Who's Who Singles Arizona.

Welcome to Who's Who Singles Arizona website! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We would love to hear from and answer any questions you may have for us.

Who's Who Singles Arizona (WWSA) is a social club for single adults, age 55+, to provide camaraderie through interesting activities and special events. Founded in 1973, WWSA has approximate 200 members with diverse backgrounds and interests.

Some of the activities provided for club members include:

  • Weekly social hours at a variety of locations in the valley with dancing to live music.
  • Ongoing group activities for members who enjoy golf, bridge, hiking, movies and more.
  • Monthly special events such as dinner dances, theatre, ethnic dining, theme parties, and some travel.

WWSA, Inc is a NON-PROFIT corporation with membership available by invitation.
Our members form lifetime friendships as we have become one big family.

A NOTE from the WWSA President

Dear Members,
We love a challenge and we Never give up

That was the mantra that my wife and I used to recite to our four children when we had some family hardship come our way over the years.

Well, our club has had a significant hardship (as well as the rest of the world) for the past 12 months.

Clearly the end is near. As of today over 700,000 Arizona residents have been vaccinated. Over 53% of us over 75 have received our COVID shots. I am feeling more confident as each day passes.

We are planning our re-start steps for WWSA
1. Fred Laeuter will begin hosting his breakfast club on Saturday March 6th. Yippeee for Fred. Nice work, Fred.
2. Bill Corbett has planned his first GOLF outing on the last friday of February. He expects to host his golf activity on the last friday of each month for the balance of 2021. Nice move, Bill.
3. Helene is setting up Happy Hours starting March17th (see the calendar)
4. Mariann Winter has done a great job of hosting Thursday bridge for many years. She has decided to retire from that work. Thank you, Mariann for your help. We will need a new sponsor for this activity. If you are interested in volunteering to organize Thursday Bridge and get it restarted in April, please contact me this week.

I think we are all looking forward to our April 25th Member’s Only Dinner Dance also.

Slowly we crept …. step-by-step, inch-by-inch …………
At our most recent board meeting we determined that the 2021-2022 dues will be reduced for one year. We have enough cash saved to underwrite our activities for this calendar year. That is an upside to our COVID experience.

Here is a more serious note. I need a volunteer to take over the monthly news letter responsibility. Betty Sayers has done a remarkable job for the past many years. She has a hand muscle issue which is preventing her from carrying out her monthly news letter work. Using a keyboard has become painful and very difficult. We need a member to step up, please. Betty will train you, and work with you for as long as necessary. If you have computer skills, please think about doing the club this service. We need you. Call me or Betty to discuss this week.

See you soon. Get ready for a Soccorsy hug.
Bill S

WHY WWSA IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Researcher George Slavich, of the University of California, who studies human social genomics, says that our genes can actually be turned on or off depending on our social environments.
In his discussion on social genomics, Dr. Slavich says that social stress is a stronger predictor of chronic disease-related mortality than physical inactivity, alcohol use, and smoking.
This is powerful. It means that social connection matters. The people we choose to spend time with matters!
I also know that creating healthy community is not effortless. Many of my patients tell me that lack of support is one of the biggest obstacles they face when deciding to make a lifestyle shift.
I take this feedback to heart. Community is so important to me. I have seen firsthand how powerful and transformative supportive groups can be. When my patients have a support system, they are far more likely to sustain weight loss and feel better.
The right community can also help you sustain lifestyle and behavior changes that are so important to long-term success, health, and happiness. Being connected to others is a necessary ingredient for health, just like food, water, air, sleep, or movement.
We can laugh with you or without you, but it is more fun with you.
So, join us at all our events!

NEWS FROM ADOT MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION DON’T GET GROUNDED
On October 1, 2020 new federal ID regulations will take effect at TSA airport security checkpoints.
The new federal rules will require air travelers to have a federally-compliant form of ID in order to pass security clearance.
Arizonans have a choice to get the Travel ID. This credential is a driver license or ID that has a gold star on the top right-hand corner, and getting one is perhaps the most convenient solution.
In order to get one, you can make an appointment at www.servicearizona.com for any MVD office. Walk-ins are also welcome. Or you may visit an Authorized Third Party driver license location.
To learn more about the documents you need to bring, please visit www.aztravelid.com
October of 2020 will be here soon. Don't wait and don't get grounded. Get the Travel ID!
