A NOTE from the WWSA President

March began our return to more normal WWSA activities.

On Saturday, March 6th, Fred Laeuter hosted his first Starfire Breakfast Club meeting in many months. Thank you, Fred, for your effort on our behalf. Then on Wednesday March 10th, we enjoyed a marvelous Camaraderie at Orange Tree Golf Resort. Helene worked hard on this first Wednesday event in a Very Long COVID Time Out.

The music by Jimmy Snowden was outstanding. He seemed to be enjoying the event as much as our members. The food and service were the best ever. Dancing was so much fun. As expected, I was able to get most of our lady members to give me a real hug. I was so happy.

Also, this week, because Zelda Hittel stepped up and volunteered to be our new Thursday -Bridge Host at Winfield, we enjoyed our first bridge event. Mariann Winter did a great job as our Bridge Host for many years. Thank you, Mariann.

In response to my request for someone to volunteer to help Betty Sayers with the publication of this monthly Newsletter, Bill Corbett has stepped up to work with Betty. Betty has done a most professional job as our publisher. Working with Betty is a delight for me. Thank you, Betty.

It is important for all of our current members to appreciate that nothing happens in our club unless a member volunteers to help out. How long has it been since you have volunteered to do some work for the club? I trust that each of you who can volunteer to accomplish a club related task understands that all of us benefit from each member’s individual effort.

What follows next is an important subject. As you might expect, we may not have as many members in our 2021 – 2022 season as we did last year. COVID has taken a toll on our country and our club. Sad, but true. In an effort to work on some new ideas to better our chances of finding New Members, your board of directors is considering any creative ideas that you may have. At our March board meeting, we discussed items like a name change to freshen-up our public image. One of the ideas that most board members were willing to consider was suggested by Phil Mullard. How does “Who’s Single (Arizona)”? It seems imperative that we update our Website also. We must try to increase our rate of new member applications.

The work on a Website update brings me to a serious request. I am looking for 2 volunteers to help our club recreate our Website. I need someone to volunteer to be our Club Contact with the Website Master. This person will carry the day-to-day responsibility of being sensitive to how the site is working and if it needs to be changed in any way. He or she will be our Website “Go To Person”. Please think about this request. Are you the member to help with this task? I am also asking for a second member to be our “Content” writer for the Website. This job will be to create the information to be included and updated as needed for our Website. I am looking for 2 people who first feel an obligation to do their part to keep the club moving forward, and second to take an interest in developing a more effect site for our club. Are you the content person? Please think about it.

Our Members-Only dance on April 25th this is going to be so much fun. I am totally excited about seeing all of our current members at the event.

Please remember that nothing happens in our club unless a volunteer does his/her part to help. See you April 25th
Bill S

WHY WWSA IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Researcher George Slavich, of the University of California, who studies human social genomics, says that our genes can actually be turned on or off depending on our social environments.
In his discussion on social genomics, Dr. Slavich says that social stress is a stronger predictor of chronic disease-related mortality than physical inactivity, alcohol use, and smoking.
This is powerful. It means that social connection matters. The people we choose to spend time with matters!
I also know that creating healthy community is not effortless. Many of my patients tell me that lack of support is one of the biggest obstacles they face when deciding to make a lifestyle shift.
I take this feedback to heart. Community is so important to me. I have seen firsthand how powerful and transformative supportive groups can be. When my patients have a support system, they are far more likely to sustain weight loss and feel better.
The right community can also help you sustain lifestyle and behavior changes that are so important to long-term success, health, and happiness. Being connected to others is a necessary ingredient for health, just like food, water, air, sleep, or movement.
We can laugh with you or without you, but it is more fun with you.
So, join us at all our events!

NEWS FROM ADOT MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION DON’T GET GROUNDED
On October 1, 2020 new federal ID regulations will take effect at TSA airport security checkpoints.
The new federal rules will require air travelers to have a federally-compliant form of ID in order to pass security clearance.
Arizonans have a choice to get the Travel ID. This credential is a driver license or ID that has a gold star on the top right-hand corner, and getting one is perhaps the most convenient solution.
In order to get one, you can make an appointment at www.servicearizona.com for any MVD office. Walk-ins are also welcome. Or you may visit an Authorized Third Party driver license location.
To learn more about the documents you need to bring, please visit www.aztravelid.com
October of 2020 will be here soon. Don't wait and don't get grounded. Get the Travel ID!
