Who's Who Singles Arizona (WWSA) is a social club for single adults, age 55+, to provide camaraderie through interesting activities and special events. Founded in 1973, WWSA has approximate 200 members with diverse backgrounds and interests.

Some of the activities provided for club members include:

  • Weekly social hours at a variety of locations in the valley with dancing to live music.
  • Ongoing group activities for members who enjoy golf, bridge, hiking, movies and more.
  • Monthly special events such as dinner dances, theatre, ethnic dining, theme parties, and some travel.

WWSA, Inc is a NON-PROFIT corporation with membership available by invitation.
Our members form lifetime friendships as we have become one big family.

A NOTE from the WWSA President

Prez Says

Our recognition of reality is sometimes difficult but we must all face what is going on in our world, today. None of us have seen, in our memories, the costs of living increasing so rapidly and with such intensity it has put us into shock. Unfortunately, it affects all of us.

That eventually works its way down to the operation of our club. Most of our dinner dance venues have set new minimums for just being there, food service, and pricing for cocktails. This always affects the responsible people that must cover these unforeseen adjustments. Therefore, we should look to an adjustment in our club dues for the forthcoming fiscal year and that announcement will be made with your invitation to renew, which you will receive in April. At the same time, it will probably be necessary to eliminate one of our annual dinner dances to pare the expense of the event. Each dinner dance creates a necessary contribution of many thousands of dollars from the clubs treasury, beyond the member contribution, and many members just don’t grasp the seriousness of this. Most charges are in excess of $100.00 per member. These are trying times and sometimes it becomes trying to recognize the pattern of inflation and how it applies to all of us.

Our camaraderies will remain as a standard for the foreseeable future. However, we have approached some of the musical entertainment to lower their charges in order to retain them as viable performers. The $5.00 charge at the door, of course, covers the cost of entertainment. Unfortunately, the attendance has dropped down so that it has become an additional expense of the club to cover the arrearage when we do not get the attendance objective which is around 40 plus participants. There was a positive sign at Manuel’s recently where we say 42 members attend. That has not been the standard, and it hurts. This situation of non-attendance for both the dinner dances and camaraderies reminds me of a quote by an unknown, which says:

NO ONE CAN WHISTLE A SYMPHONY . . . IT TAKES THE WHOLE ORCHESTRA TO PLAY IT.

I recognize this club as a family of friends. There are many memories established here that will be with you for many years. The board is doing everything possible to create the viable entertainment and social environment that will satisfy our members and maintain the stability of the club’s finances.

We are the best social club in the valley. Please contact me if you might have anything to contribute to the situation that we are now facing.

WHY WWSA IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Researcher George Slavich, of the University of California, who studies human social genomics, says that our genes can actually be turned on or off depending on our social environments.
In his discussion on social genomics, Dr. Slavich says that social stress is a stronger predictor of chronic disease-related mortality than physical inactivity, alcohol use, and smoking.
This is powerful. It means that social connection matters. The people we choose to spend time with matters!
I also know that creating healthy community is not effortless. Many of my patients tell me that lack of support is one of the biggest obstacles they face when deciding to make a lifestyle shift.
I take this feedback to heart. Community is so important to me. I have seen firsthand how powerful and transformative supportive groups can be. When my patients have a support system, they are far more likely to sustain weight loss and feel better.
The right community can also help you sustain lifestyle and behavior changes that are so important to long-term success, health, and happiness. Being connected to others is a necessary ingredient for health, just like food, water, air, sleep, or movement.
We can laugh with you or without you, but it is more fun with you.
So, join us at all our events!

NEWS FROM ADOT MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION DON’T GET GROUNDED
On October 1, 2020 new federal ID regulations will take effect at TSA airport security checkpoints.
The new federal rules will require air travelers to have a federally-compliant form of ID in order to pass security clearance.
Arizonans have a choice to get the Travel ID. This credential is a driver license or ID that has a gold star on the top right-hand corner, and getting one is perhaps the most convenient solution.
In order to get one, you can make an appointment at www.servicearizona.com for any MVD office. Walk-ins are also welcome. Or you may visit an Authorized Third Party driver license location.
To learn more about the documents you need to bring, please visit www.aztravelid.com
October of 2020 will be here soon. Don't wait and don't get grounded. Get the Travel ID!
